Cringely\u2019s article on TCP\/IP<strong>.<\/strong> The number 10 link was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iwantanewgirlfriend.com\/\">www.iwantanewgirlfriend.com <\/a>, which is itself a blog, and which is sponsored by a sex toy I\u2019ve never heard of: the world\u2019s only oral vibrator, Tongue Joy<strong>.<\/strong> Others on the list concern the 20th anniversary of the PC, the fatness of Americans, and the poor guy who got nailed, literally, in the eye<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s pretty easy, at this point, to manipulate rankings based on such a small sample<strong>.<\/strong> Since Blogdex users can link back to the original blogs, being on the list means your blog can be exposed to more people<strong>.<\/strong> In a shameless display of oneupsmanship, I&#8217;ve added the top 10 sites to my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stratvantage.com\/stratlets\/\">Stratlets <\/a> blog<strong>.<\/strong> Let&#8217;s see if I end up on the list. What You Need to Know About Future Tech and Your Business<strong>.<\/strong>&quot;<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/http\/\/www.mn-entrepreneurs.org\/\">MN Entrepreneurs <\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Sunrise Period for .info Domain: <\/strong>From now until August 27th, registered US and EU trademark owners can register their .info domains<strong>.<\/strong> BulkRegister is charging a registration fee for $5 per name, with a discount for volume<strong>.<\/strong> Registrations must be for a minimum of 5 years<strong>.<\/strong> Like all registrars, BulkRegister does not guarantee that the trademark owner will actually get the domain name<strong>.<\/strong> But there\u2019s a better chance now than in the next phase, called Landrush, when names will go to any registrant<strong>.<\/strong> I have no idea how trademark ownership will be determined during the Sunrise phase<strong>.<\/strong> I\u2019d be very surprised if the process can be completed by the deadline<strong>.<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/bulkregister.com\/infofaq.phtml\/\">BulkRegister.com <\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Open Services Coming<strong>?<\/strong> <\/strong>Gene Kan, ex-Gnutella, ex-InfraSearch, current JXTASearch leader, writes about an evolving technology trend akin to Open Source, which brought us most of the tools that the Internet runs on<strong>.<\/strong> An outgrowth of the peer-to-peer (P2P) movement, Open Services involve the sharing of idle resources, which, due to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.intel.com\/intel\/museum\/25anniv\/hof\/moore.htm\">Moore\u2019s Law <\/a>, have become extremely abundant<strong>.<\/strong> As Kan puts it:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The price of performance is decreasing constantly while the performance itself is increasing ridiculously<strong>.<\/strong> That means I&#8217;m pretty happy to share my Pentium 8 50gHz with you because I only need all that horsepower while Windows boots<strong>.<\/strong> After that, the CPU is hardly utilized because I can&#8217;t hit 50 billion keys in a second<strong>.<\/strong> Between keys, my computer could be cracking RC5 or musing on colon cancer<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nice dig at Microsoft there, BTW<strong>.<\/strong> Anyway, what Kan and others are proposing is a codified way to share your computing resources a la current P2P schemes like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stratvantage.com\/directories\/SETI.htm\">SETI@Home <\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stratvantage.com\/directories\/parabon.htm\">Parabon, <\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stratvantage.com\/directories\/diffusenetwork.htm\">AllCast <\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stratvantage.com\/directories\/envive.htm\">Envive <\/a><strong>.<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.openp2p.com\/pub\/a\/p2p\/2001\/08\/02\/openservices.html\">OpenP2P <\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Can\u2019t Get Enough of ME<strong>?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In the unlikely event that you want more of my opinions, I\u2019ve started a Weblog<strong>.<\/strong> It\u2019s the fashionable thing for pundits to do, and I\u2019m doing it too<strong>.<\/strong> A Weblog is a datestamped collection of somewhat random thoughts and ideas assembled on a Web page<strong>.<\/strong> If you\u2019d like to subject the world to your thoughts, as I do, you can create your own Weblog<strong>.<\/strong> You need to have a Web site that allows you FTP access, and the free software from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blogger.com\/\">www.blogger.com <\/a><strong>.<\/strong> This allows you to right click on a Web page and append your pithy thoughts to your Weblog<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve dubbed my Weblog entries \u201cStratlets\u201d, and they are available at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stratvantage.com\/stratlets\/\">www.stratvantage.com\/stratlets\/ <\/a><strong>.<\/strong> Let me know what you think.
